Three photographic exhibition sets focuses on the tea as the cultural and social phenomenon in three countries: Japan, Sri Lanka and India. Shows were already held on several places and we also published the exhibition catalogue.

Photographic set of Zdeněk Thoma from the Japanese gardens is the first part of the larger exhibition On the Tea Road.

31 panels with photographs in 30x40 and 50x60 cm sizes are accompanied witch 2 information boards in English and Czech.

Let us leave behind us the world, which in Buddhist thought is called the house in flames and the dewy ground, roji, let us enter, at least for a moment, a landscape of purity and revelation, as facilitated by the tea masters.

A Day on the Tea Estates

Photographic set of Zdeněk and Michal Thoma from the tea estates of Sri Lanka is the second part of the larger exhibition set On the Tea Road.

35 panels 80x60 cm large are accompanied with 2 information boards in English and Czech languges.

The tea estates of Sri Lanka are the self contained worlds which has their own rules and day rhythm. They are not mere place of "bitter leaf" production but living space of thousands of people whose everyday work is in some distinctive way subject to the tea. The pluckers, supervisors, factory workes or estate managers, all their life, work and rest as well, are connected with the boundless fields of tea and beautiful landscapes of the tea bush patterns.

Black and white photostory by Michal Thoma from the corners and sidewalks of Indian cities is a third part of the greater exhitibion On the Tea Road.

Exhbition consist of 23 panels with photograpsh in 70x50 cm size and 2 information boards in English and Czech language.

In India you can get tea on literally every street corner. The tea seller, a young boy or old man called a chai wallah, is an ever-present feature of Indian towns and cities. The chai wallah is usually surrounded by squatting customers who appreciatively sip the hot beverage, contentedly watching the world go by, unperturbed by the hustle and bustle of the street, a funeral procession taking a bier with a dead body for cremation, or an intrusive foreigner with a camera.
